Apple Vision Pro Test: A 24-Hour Review

We had the opportunity to try and review the Apple Vision Pro for 24 hours. In this article, you’ll find our review of this spatial computing device!

First Impressions: Solid Build and Exceptional Visuals

From the moment we unboxed the Apple Vision Pro, it was clear that Apple has crafted a device that is truly impressive. The build quality feels solid and premium. The camera feed quality stands out, delivering crystal-clear visuals.

Controls: Eye and Hand Movements for Seamless Interaction

A unique feature of the Vision Pro is its control system. There are no physical controllers—instead, it uses eye movements and hand gestures. These sensors are highly responsive, making it easy to navigate and interact with apps just by looking at them and moving your hands. This approach might feel a bit unusual at first, but within minutes, it becomes second nature.

Audio: Immersive Spatial Sound

The spatial audio is another highlight of the Vision Pro. It creates a theater-like experience, making you feel immersed in whatever you’re watching or exploring. This rich audio quality enhances both entertainment and practical applications, making everything sound more realistic.

Performance and Integration: Apple Ecosystem at Its Best

Powered by the Apple M2 chip, the Vision Pro delivers smooth performance, handling complex tasks and graphics effortlessly. It integrates seamlessly with other Apple devices. We connected it to our Mac, and it effectively served as a virtual monitor, expanding our workspace significantly. This feature is particularly useful for tasks like video editing or when you want a more immersive computing experience.

Display and Comfort

The Vision Pro features a high-resolution Micro OLED display with a resolution of 4K per eye. This provides a sharp and vivid viewing experience. The display is bright, and colors are vibrant, making both virtual and augmented reality content look fantastic.

However, wearing the Vision Pro with the solo band can feel heavy and uncomfortable over time. This discomfort prompted us to try Apple’s alternative band, which covers the top of the head and edges, distributing the weight better and improving comfort.

3D Model Interaction: A Handy Tool for Professionals

Another useful feature is the ability to import and view 3D models. You can resize and manipulate these models, making it ideal for showcasing designs or conducting detailed project reviews. This can be particularly valuable for professionals in fields like architecture, engineering, or design.

Connectivity: Stay Online and Productive

The Vision Pro supports Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.3, ensuring fast and stable connections for online activities. Whether you’re browsing the web, streaming content, or working on cloud-based applications, the device maintains strong connectivity.

Cons of the Apple Vision Pro

Despite its impressive features, the Apple Vision Pro does have some drawbacks worth considering.

Firstly, there’s the matter of its high price tag, which starts at $3,499. While this investment may be justifiable for some, it could be prohibitive for others, particularly those on a tighter budget.

Additionally, the limited app selection is a notable concern. As the device is relatively new to the market, the ecosystem of compatible applications is still growing. This means users may not have access to all the functionalities they desire right away, which could impact the overall user experience.

Another drawback is that you have to carry the battery separately. It would have been better if the battery were integrated into the headset.

Moreover, initial reports of discomfort when wearing the device with the solo band raise questions about its long-term usability. While Apple offers an alternative band design to alleviate this issue, it may not entirely resolve the comfort concerns for all users.

Lastly, prolonged usage may result in overheating. This could potentially affect the device’s performance and longevity, particularly during extended sessions or intensive tasks.

Final Thoughts: Promising Yet Room for Improvement

The Apple Vision Pro is a remarkable device that showcases impressive technology and provides a glimpse into the future of spatial computing. However, its high price and the current limited app availability might be drawbacks for some. Future versions could benefit from being more affordable and having a wider range of applications. Overall, the Vision Pro is a premium device that delivers an excellent experience, especially for those who are already invested in the Apple ecosystem and are looking to explore the capabilities of advanced AR/VR technology.

While we gear up to add the Vision Pro to our fleet, we continue to offer a range of VR and XR headsets for rent, including Quest 2, Quest 3, and Quest Pro.
