For the Centre International de Conférences Genève (CICG), one of Geneva’s largest conference venues, and its owner FIPOI (Fondation des Immeubles pour les Organisations Internationales), GlobalVision Communication built a complete digital twin of the building: every meeting room, every corridor, and a full library of furniture, modelled in 3D and made explorable from a browser or a Meta Quest 3 headset. The goal was ambitious: let organizers, exhibitors, and visitors visit the center remotely and configure their preferred spaces before ever setting foot on site.
Recreating a working conference center at this level of detail is not a purely creative exercise. It required deep technical, architectural, and organizational knowledge of the building and how it actually operates, from room dimensions and technical infrastructure to the way spaces are reconfigured between events. On our side, this meant combining 3D modelling expertise with advanced software development: JavaScript, HTML5, and Three.js for the online platform, and Unity3D with C# for the headset application.
The result is available on two fronts, built from the same underlying 3D model:
• A fully online, no-plugin web platform, accessible from any modern browser, letting users see the CICG in 3D, change room configurations, and move through the various spaces without installing anything.
• A native application for the Meta Quest 3, offering the same exploration in mixed reality, with the added sense of scale and presence a headset provides.
In both versions, visitors can walk freely through the rooms and adopt any position, rather than following a fixed, pre-set path.
The platform was designed around four progressive layers of interactivity, from a simple overview to a fully custom configuration tool:
• 1. 3D floorplan visualization: a complete, navigable 3D model of the building, its floors, and its rooms, giving a clear overview of the venue before diving into any specific space.
• 2. Conference room configuration: a library of standard, pre-configured room setups that users can select directly, reflecting the layouts most commonly used at the CICG.
• 3. Custom room configuration: for users who need more than a preset, a dedicated tool lets them add and arrange furniture and decor from a library of roughly fifteen 3D objects, placing pieces freely in the space and walking around the room while the layout is preserved. Configurations can be saved to a unique alphanumeric code and reloaded later, and a screenshot tool captures the current layout for sharing or reference.
• 4. Advertising space configurator: a dedicated module lets the CICG’s teams highlight the venue’s available branding and advertising spaces, applying custom graphics and generating a simulated view of how a sponsor’s branding would actually look inside the building.
Several display modes were developed to match how the tool is actually used around an event: tabletop AR, for a compact, miniature view of a room on any surface, on-site or remote; mixed reality, used on-site to bring a chosen room configuration to life at full scale; and 3D navigation, for free exploration on-site or remotely. Behind the scenes, the building’s 3D model was carefully optimized, walls, floors, and furniture grouped and tagged by room, floor, and material, with finer texturing applied according to each display mode, to keep the experience smooth whether on a laptop, a phone, or a headset.
